ABOUT THE CHARACTER
Name: Xu Shu Age: 36 Gender: Male Style: Canon Residence: The Jiang Ling area
THE PERSONALITY
Xu Shu believes in the potential of Shu as the base of operations for Liu Bei; along with Zhuge Liang, Pang Tong and others, he has given his full backing to the conflict. His uses have been vital over the months and years leading up to Liu Bei's rise, but whilst he has gained personal satisfaction with his performances, many have overlooked his own workings for his former classmate Liang's, it is no surprise that there may well be looming jealous within him, ready to burst.
He is a supportive figure to his officers and superiors. The young tactician gives off a sense of calm and contemplation, but is always quick off the line when an important matter raises itself that needs immediate action - for such qualities he has risen in rank several times and allowed the warriors of Shu the freedom to express themselves in the many battles and skirmishes in Jing and against Wu.
Optimism and enthusiasm seemingly seep from his every being, rarely does a smile fall from his face and few occasions has an opponent gotten the mental advantage over him.
THE APPEARANCE
(Looks remarkably like Ba Zeng?!)
Xu Shu is athletic in his physique, though under the visage of a scholar he is often seen as weak or vulnerable, which is completely against the truth. Beneath the robes of his common "courtly" look, he is toned, muscle wise, and has a good solid body. He grew up as a swordsman and has never lost his physical attributes developed from such arts.
With short-medium black hair and a fashionably shaved moustache and beard he comes across as charismatic and approachable, if slightly enigmatic. With deep coloured brown eyes, it is easy to get lost within them as the constantly thinking man gives a glint and sparkle.
THE HISTORY
Formerly an advisor under Liu Biao. Xu Shu left the service of the lord of Jing soon after joining, the reason being his realisation the man would never live up to his own ambitions and desires. He returned to his adolescent scholarly teacher, Sima Hui, and posed the issue with him and they both agreed that Liu Bei be the man to approach for service.
Xu Shu tested Liu Bei upon their meeting, hoping to prove or disprove his supposed "virtue", the ruler passed the test and he joined as a low ranking officer and advisor. His exploits were needed sooner rather than later and only months within his new employment he was called upon when a 5,000 man strong attack approached from the nearby Fan Castle, led by one of Cao Cao's finest generals. Xu Shu thwarted the attack, giving directions to the generals of his master's forces. It was when during their enemy's retreat that Xu Shu posed the theory that Cao Ren would seek immediate retaliation of attack once more, it was with such an idea that he later gained fame and prestige.
Cao Ren arrived with a force far greater than the 5,000 previous. He led his forces into a formation designed to be impossible to beat, but upon being asked and studying it briefly the student of Sima Hui found the flaw and gave instructions to Zhao Yun once again. Whilst he rode out, Xu Shu then instructed Zhang Fei and Guan Yu to flank Cao Ren's formation - one would cut off his retreat and inflict further losses, whilst the other would sack the empty Fan Castle for all they could get. Needless to say it was a huge success and Xu Shu was applauded for his role and promoted.
Upon the employment of his friends and great minds of their own kind, Zhuge Liang and Pang Tong, Xu Shu took a backseat from public view for many months, however he was instrumental during the battle of Red Cliffs in ensuring Wu kept to their bargains and also aided Pang Tong in his part of the mission. In recent months he has been kept as a counter to the mind of Wu's Zhou Yu in the Jing borders of Wu and Shu. There the brother in law of Sun Ce believes it is Kongming (Zhuge Liang) who consistently nullifies his attempts at gaining a strategic advantage.
The star of Xu Shu fades behind the brighter light of his friend, but there is life yet and great potential. Shu's prolific frontline tactician may be needed again if the Jing treaty fails and if such an occurrence happens, perhaps it is the hands on directions and quick decisions of Xu Shu that will outshine his friend and superior.
