ABOUT THE CHARACTER
Name: Min Hui "Merchant Prince of Donglai" Age: 27 Gender: Male Style: Original Residence: Donglai (what's on the map as Beihai) for the moment
THE PERSONALITY
Min Hui is certainly quite a character. A merchant by trade and blood, he is a charming man certainly. He excels at dealing with others, at making them feel important and worth his attention even if he does now give two shits about them. His easy smiles and wry smirks have a way of putting others at ease (unless they hate merchants in the first place). Because of this great charisma he has his way with the ladies and mens as he chooses.
Sexy time isn't the only time in which Min Hui gets what he wants. While his charm is not a facade, it is certainly something that he is unashamed to use as a weapon. One doesn't get to call himself the Merchant Prince of Donglai without having killed and maimed a great many competitors. Min Hui may see like a harmless socialite and merchant, but he is not beyond getting rid of a perceived threat. Whether he does it himself or has someone else worry with the details matters not, so long as he deems himself secure.
THE APPEARANCE
Min Hui is an attractive man by most accounts. He maintains a proper and orderly appearance at all times and he dresses quite lavishly. Min Hui understands that appearance may not be everything, but it certainly helps a great many things along. He keeps his face mostly clean shaven, aside from a neatly trimmed goatee, and his hair is always properly in place, pulled back into a tight bun. He stands at a respectable 5'10" and he takes care of his body through regular exercise and practice with the Gentleman of Weapons, the jian.
THE HISTORY
Min Hui belongs to the well-established Min clan of Donglai. The Min clan has long been a political and economic power in Donglai, taking advantage of its position near the sea to acquire valuable and exotic goods from Jiangdong and the barbarian islands that exist quietly on the seas. For a great while the Min clan enjoyed prosperity.
Unfortunately, as the Han declined and worthless Emperors such as Huan and Ling let control of the Empire fall into unworthy hands, taxes were steadily increased to afford the Imperial decadence and the drafting and upkeep of border forces to keep out the various barbarians pressing in on the Empire. This impacted the wealthy quite a bit, especially the merchant class. The Min clan, along with many other important regional families throughout the Empire began to consider their options. It was about that time that Zhang Jue rebelled and declared the reign of the Han over. The Min clan, and many others, immediately threw in their support for the movement. The Min clan played a pivotal role in winning Donglai for the Turbans and continued to support the movement monetarily until it was obviously that the war was one that could not be won.
The movement failed, but the authority of the Han was sundered in the process. This allowed for the Min clan to regain wealth lost and status that was threatened. Unfortunately, such a recovery was not to last. Cao Cao eventually came to take Donglai and he imposed strict taxes and limits on the Min clan's power once again. Not only that, but there was definitely resentment from Cao Cao toward the Min clan for their action against the Han. Min Hui's father, Min Hong, maintained a guarded stance against Cao Cao, but he did acquiesce to whatever demands the man laid upon them.
But Min Hong is now dead, and a much less cautious Min Hui has now inherited his father's wealth and station. Min Hui is aware that he cannot do much about Cao Cao, but he has heard that the southern lord Sun Ce is much kinder to his merchants. Whether or not this is true, Min Hui is certainly not comfortable with remaining in Donglai any longer. It hurts him to leave his ancestral home, but he fears Cao Cao more than he cares to admit, and he needs a way out -- a way to make a profit.
