ABOUT THE CHARACTER
Name: Diao Chan (Chan for short) Age: 39 Gender: Female Style: Canon Residence: Kingdom of Wu
THE PERSONALITY
Diao Chan is clever, and has always been someone to use what she has to the full extent. Not one to be easily fooled by cheap tricks and flirts thrown at her from men. Good at taking direction from people she knows will benefit her, Chan is well experienced in putting on a face for the audience. Having faced more than one power hungry lover, she is well educated in the art of beauty and holds secrets to youth that women would die for. Well aware of her talents, she chooses to play the innocent role, using her abilities only when necessarily. She enjoys surprising diplomats with her grace and shocking men with her features. But by all means she isn’t a cheap trophy woman. Diao Chan has dignity, and she prides herself in being recognized for her talents where she goes, especially when meeting other women. One of her biggest prides is in her daughter, whom she would give her life for and wants to raise up just like herself. Spending countless hours in front of the mirror, Chan takes her time in preparing herself for a public appearance. After all if a woman didn’t have beauty, then what did she have left?
But by all means, Diao Chan has no ill intent. Just because she’s betrayed the ruler of an entire kingdom and then abandoned her husband whom she vowed her life to doesn’t mean she’s evil and deceptive. If she could choose, she would have picked a different life. All Diao Chan wants to do is be able to live peacefully, entertain friends at special occasions and raise a family of her own. But fate has placed her where she is now and she a person to let opportunities slide. A political item she may be but she most definitely will do the job to her best. Nobody was going to see through her pokerface and certainly nobody was going to be able to find a flaw in her speech. She would never allow herself to make such mistakes.
THE APPEARANCE
Some have called her a goddess of beauty but Diao Chan feels that they’re exaggerating. Of course she was beautiful, but it took a lot of work. To men, she is striking, gorgeous and jaw dropping. To women she is an object of envy. The reason behind all this is really simple. She takes care to keep her figure slim and uses only the best secret remedies for anti aging. With long flowing hair and caring teasing eyes, Diao Chan looks like an angelic phenomena, a dancer for the gods. Dressing only in extravagant flowing silk, Diao Chan loves clothing that makes her feel like she’s flying. On occasions, she can be found wearing her white dancing robes, which she often accompanies with an intricate dance.
On a more private occasion, when she finds it difficult to dress herself up and head outside, she likes to wear a simple silk robe and minimal jewelry, usually some earrings. Even without the rose petal lipstick, she is still a gem to look at. Of course, that being said, she can only look better with make up on. Her essentials typically compose of some kind of red lip powder, black ash for her eyes and assorted pieces of jewelry in her hair and on her body. The only thing she will never wear though, is a ring, as she worries she’ll lose them.
THE HISTORY
Born into a life of servitude to the overlord Dong Zhuo, Diao Chan had never envisioned her life to turn out like it is now. As a young girl she showed promise in fine arts including playing the difficult pipa and guzheng. Spotted by Dong Zhuo just before turning 14 she was trained as a house servant and made a permanent resident of the tyrant’ home. However as she matured, Dong Zhuo’s interest in her increased and she was soon forced into a position of personally attending to him. At the time she was thankful for her life, as she imagined many had it much worse than she did. Eventually she began to attend many of the lord’s social gatherings, often being the object of display for the local warlords when they visited Dong Zhuo. Her life took an interesting turn though, when she was exposed to the young warrior Lu Bu, whom she had heard from gossip to be a “fierce” and “handsome” warrior. She was naïve, and didn’t pay much attention until he came to Dong Zhuo’s palace and they laid eyes on each other. What followed was a series of secret meetings and plotting.
Eventually Diao Chan realized there was life beyond what she had now and began to work in secret against Dong Zhuo. Knowing the tyrant had occupied a major region of China and posed as a threat to many she formed a plan to knock him from the throne. Luoyang was the supposed residency of the emperor so she was able to gather a lot of background knowledge about Dong Zhuo. After many lies and secret meetings with Lu Bu, she developed a keen sense of people’s behaviors and began to bend it against Dong Zhuo, forcing him and Lu Bu into a circle of hatred and tearing up the relationship the two men had. The end result was her fleeing from the assassination of Dong Zhuo and running through the country with her lover Lu Bu.
The two fled to several cities but due to Lu Bu’s poor reputation with the emperor, they were hunted down by the overlord Cao Cao as well as important political figures such as Yuan Shu and Liu Bei. Often appearing only on the battlefield to support her husband, Diao Chan remained an active participant in Lu Bu’s political life, engaging in meetings, envoys and commissions to governors. Knowing her life was not at risk due to her gender she was able to successfully create relationships with small city officials and often found places for her and her husband to reside in. However after losing a strategic battle to Cao Cao she fled for her life to Xu and took temporarily residence there.
There trouble in the area. Diao Chan, upon returning from a water run found their camp attacked at night. Seized by guards for being a stranger she was taken hostage to the Lord of Wu, separating her from Lu Bu. Luckily, her past and beauty captured the eyes of Sun Ce who allowed her to stay at Wu. Supplying Wu’s tactician with information on geography and enemy officers that she had once worked with, Diao Chan was able to hold a significant, if not dignified role in the kingdom. Her future still lies in the fate of Wu but she feels that she will not return to her former homes if given the chance. Her contact with Lu Bu was also cut leaving her to fend for herself. She has made friends with many of the male officers and has high hopes of visiting the Queen of Shu, someone who she knows can be on her side.
