As tensions are running higher and higher in and around the Jing province, the kingdom of Wu has decided to prepare the defenses of the cities in Jing for battle. Not that large armies were mustered and war machines build, no, it was vital to keep the threat to the neighbors, the kingdom of Shu mostly, to a minimum. Provocations would not be appreciated by the Shu officers guarding their borders with Wu and so only defensive positions have to be strengthened and traps, outposts and other countermeasures for hostile assaults will be constructed. Being handed over responsibility of diplomatic concerns over Jing by the king of Wu, lord Sun Ce, Lu Meng has decided the first city that will be honoured by his superior tactical and insight prowess would be Chang Sha. This would also become his main base of operations. The main reason for Chang Sha to be his headquarters is that it is on the frontline with the Shu kingdom and it a vital link between the more southern Wu cities and the capital, Jian Ye.
Lu Meng and his personal army arrive in Chang Sha after a couple days of riding from the capital. Lu Meng's men are aware of the current situation, but their lord has been awfully quiet since they left for Chang Sha. Usually their lord is always telling jokes or telling how good he is when compared to other generals and enemies he encounters. But ever since he gave the order to depart from Jian Ye, he has been in thoughts. None of the soldiers, not even his officers have dared to utter a word to their commander. They rather keep things to themselves or talk amongst each other. Thanks to their banners flying high and mighty in the spring wind, the guards of the city Chang Sha recognize they are about to be visited by a high lord of Wu and quickly open the gate and prepare a welcoming committee.
Lu Meng and his troops ride into the city with pride, their armour shining in the sun and their banners making sounds in the wind. The guards that welcome them bow down to show their respect to the warriors and, having been in the city before, the troops move to the barracks of the city, while Lu Meng and his officers head for the palace of the city. As they come closer to the structure, a smile erupts at Lu Meng's face and he looks to the right and left of him to his officers.
"See that, men? That will be our home for the coming period! We will sleep like kings!"
This statement brings peace to the hearts and minds of his officers, who happily conclude that their lord is not pissed or angry about anything. And more importantly, it is not their fault either! They ride through the gate of the wall surrounding the palace and servants come out to meet them. Lu Meng dismounts, followed by his officers and the servants happily take the reigns of the horses.
"Treat these horses well. Give them food and blankets, they need to replenish their energy after such a long ride."
Lu Meng nods to the servants who bow and nod and take the horses to the stables at the palace. Lu Meng and his officers head into the building. They go straight for the court hall, where the supervising authority resides. Without waiting for a servant to take him in the room and announce him, Lu Meng and his men barge into the room and startle the people within.
"I am Lu Meng, general of Wu, and I have come by the orders of our lord Sun Ce to rule in his place. I am placed here to oversee the defenses of the borders of Wu. Who is the person in charge here?"
