I'm Adam and I've been around since late summer 2005. I'm probably best known more recently as a site creator, but before then I used to be a follower of trends and sites here, there and everywhere. Some sites and who I was:Sagas - Cao Rui (led Wei just before Alex and Jen were banned, I left after whatever battle it was, where Justin betrayed Wu for us.) Betrayals - Xu Sheng (1st), Nastyr (2nd), Lu Xun (3rd) Rise of Lords - Xu Shu The Fallen Era - Liu Bei? Chronicles of Destiny - Zhao Yun (killed by Erik), Ma Teng (still owned Japan before 'Zhao Won' rofl) Wrath of the Three Kingdoms - Jiang Wei Myths of Emertia - Ceratum, Eriel, Exiled, etc etc 13th World - A site of mine, where I can't remember who I played... hmmm Rome's Conquest - Marcus Antonius (Marc/Mark Antony) Dragon Ball Fury - Kid Trunks Primrose Chase - Jamie Hunt, Sean Taylor, etc etc Many many more I was known as a reliable 'battle rper', better at fighting than writing, a funny turnabout now as I don't battle and I create sites less focused on battles ^^. I had a defensive method of fighting revolving around Roman tactics and methodologies, therefore I was rather one dimensional. I was a decent strategist, an okay tactician but a better general back then. I also wrote a duel post for someone who was fighting Steve and made him take an entire day to think of a reply, before he pulled some mortal combat shit out and managed to just about dodge almost certain death, but he'd have beat me usually if I didn't use someone to make him over-confident xD I've been called the best tactican in our community a few years ago, for pouring water down a hillside and using it to f' up a bunch of cavalry units (I know, right?). Since then I have been a 'middle carder' or someone seen as decent, but not as good as the big names, but I wore than underdog badge with pride and it forced me to engage in some of the best rps I have done on 3k sites and eventually led me to discover other ways of enjoying roleplays.

Pouring water over a hillside to fk up cavalry? what? why? How? who? Really? How does that even work? Are you talking about a torrent of water and pushing the Cav over? Or did you just make the hill muddy? I dont understand how that works. How much water would you need to make a difference? How small was this hill? How did you get all that water up the hill in the first place? Where did you get the water from? Wow my head hurts. Please elaborate somewhat Adam.

Haha, just imagine everyone being 16/17 again, that being probably the oldest group xD most were 14/15 etc. Anyway on Rise of Lords I was Xu Shu and for one battle/skirmish, it was me vs a bigger force, which was mostly cavalry. I took the highground, because that's just simple stuff to do (unless you're Ma Su). In my posts I never mentioned taking buckets of water up, but lo and behold, as was custom in those times, such supplies magically appeared up there with me, as I claimed I had gotten them earlier in the day . Cavalry came up the mountain path and I got my army to pour water down the path. It created a slippery surface, ending up with about 1000+ horsemen falling off and probably plummeting to their deaths rofl. In retrospect I doubt I'd get away with such a ridiculous ploy nowadays

Well its not the most ridiculous thing I've seen attempted. Remember Slick and his dumb idea of setting a forest on fire and then having his men run through it with buckets of water to put out the blaze? My God.

It was ridiculous-ness that made the community back then, but with age comes maturity and we're here in a far more normal environment xD That's not to say the fun has gone, in fact I have far more fun making plots than I would firing flaming cows over Chang Sha's city walls (Yes, I did that and it was epically fun)

So many memories coming back up here.
And Mick, don't even try and think Mortiss is a better/more popular created character, because you're crazy if you're putting him over SYC.
I'm Brian. Some facts about me: I blacked out so hard last night I wasn't even a person. I've been told I made out with a hot, but incredibly psycho, chick all night, and started a fight with a whole group of people for unknown reasons.
In the RP community, I started way back before Sagas. I found some random site with my friend Frank called Swordsmanship, which was literally like three friends who made it and we randomly joined up with them. That one sucked, the guy who made it was a bastard, then Frank found the first RoTK site, the one that would eventually end and be taken over by Sleipner as Sagas.
I was Sun Yuan Ci on Sagas, then got kicked out for talking bad about the admins when Betrayals popped up. I was Shen Ha on Betrayals, all of them I believe. I can't recall everything from those early sites, but I remember being an avid duelist and grabbing quite a few kills on one site that way.
Most sites, I've been either SYC or Shen Ha. There was Si Guo Saga, where I was Shen Ha with Ryan/Scorp and we captured and imprisoned Kyle for no reason and held him for like a month. Chronicles of Destiny was a lot of fun, starting out with Lyle, Shady and myself joining up to start our own small kingdom before eventually convincing essentially everyone to either surrender and join us, or convincing somebody under them to betray and help us.
On RoTK Battlefields, I had a great character arch going with SYC, with the climax of assassinating Liu Bei and having war called on him to unite the land against a common enemy, being the martyr. New Era was probably my favorite site, where I was Sima Yi and Zhang Liao. With Sima Yi, I had a bloodbath battle against Ryan, and with Zhang Liao, I had arguably the best series of threads in our RP community; where Zhang Liao and SSX fell in love, she was held captive at Xu Chang while Zhang Liao defended from her brother. Sun Quan comes over, duels him personally but Zhang Liao didn't fight back due to his love for his sister. Brought back, Sun Quan had him executed. If you haven't read Justin and my threads on this plot, I'd recommend doing so.
I've been called the best storyteller of us once or twice.

I started Saga, so you should all thank me for you all meeting. 'nuff said. Hey hey hey, it was You, me and Jesse, if you can't quite remember properly. Then Sleipner decided it was time to revamp the site (which it was, and to be fair he made a successful site out of one that was toying with the notion of being good, I'll give him that much) and then proceeded to build it without telling me and Xian (Jesse for you other folks), you know, two of the guys who he was taking his rules from. And when word finally reached the two of us, he flat out told us we wouldn't be welcome on his site, as admins, mods, or even members. I still don't know what we did to him to make him suddenly turn into an asshole to us, but I probably never will, so whatever. Safe to say we never spoke after that. Anyway, I've been around with all those folks up above, I was a lurker on the Koei forums, and then tried to split my time between the numerous RP sites that popped up as soon as all the "1st gens" started making the migration, and the result was that I was only slightly active on each of the sites, and played no significant role in those sites whatsoever, haha. Yeah, I'm the guy that makes everybody go "Wait, he was around then too?" I spent a long time creating sites, and eventually realized how much of a pain in the ass it was, and then stopped being an admin. My account name was almost always DeathKnightPK, and I played (far more often than I should have) a character named Death. Original, I know. Over on New Era I opened up this thread: rotk-newera.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tl&action=display&thread=301&page=1So if any of you are looking for some of the links to some of the oldest sites, hit that up, I was on almost all of those, admin on some, asshat on others. I created that thread so that in the future I could do exactly what I am doing now, pointing you there and saying "I'm lazy and don't want to remember all the names" So, I'm lazy and don't want to remember all the names.

Sht that's who I was thinking of Jesse ;D
I got you and hm mixed up. I remember DeathKnight, you were always kind of random and just appeared every now and then. When I saw the name I was like 'oh its that guy again', You were 'Leoric Jax' at some point weren't you Dave?
and you got me excited when you put Emptylands on your list before I realised it was the lame ass sequel.
You know its wasn't on ProBoards that first one, I can't remember now what it was on but it wasnt a ProBoards site I remember that.

Damn straight, Leoric Jax is my go-to fantasy name. And it is very easy to get me and Jesse mixed because the two of us would always join sites together. And if one of use was building a site the other was always involved.
So a very, very easy mistake, hahaha.
Edit: Yeah, I haven't been able to find a link to the first Empty Lands, I'm still sure that the link will be posted on one of those old sites somewhere, but I haven't found it so far..
And I think it was Invisionfree that it was on... Maybe?
Edit 2: Doh, yeah it was there already wasn't it? Shoulda read my own thread before assuming I didn't know the link.

Dude you had it up I just didn't look at the other pages. emptiness.suddenlaunch3.com/index.cgiFking Suddenlaunch, watever happened to that? Some crazy ass 20 page threads on it lol, them were the days. Plus I'd totally forgotten my sister totally raped everybody, she ended up like controlling the whole site by being a slut toward the major powers. She got Zione (Dan) under her control by putting out for him and pretending to be in love with him then back stabbed him and joined Xaiver (Alex). She was a really bitch. Anyway its pretty funny looking back over this, some good times on this site. Who the hell decided that bright red was a good colour though

I think the thing I miss about short posts is that it doesn't take as much time to actually get around to answering somebody. As it is now, you have to set aside literally half an hour just to respond to an RP post, and sometimes people will take 5+ paragraphs to state absolutely nothing.
If only we were unafraid of short, good posts. The good part is key, though.. We used to all write a couple sentences and that made for really long threads of battles, fights, conversations, whatever. So really we used to advance the plot faster than we do now, although it was pretty much crap filled with decent ideas from time to time.
It just seems like things happen so much more slowly now, because everybody needs to write an essay every time, o_0..

Dude I've been saying that for years.
Its why I'm now limiting myself to 2 - 4 paragraphs. Many sites have died just because the effort of making a post out weighed the benefit.
Plus its not like we never did long posts back then its just that they were used sporadically so that when one was made it had a far greater impact.
Really if everybody stuck to 2 - 4 paragraphs things would move much smoother, but alas I've said that since Betrayals and nobody has ever taken notice of me.

That's one way to look at it, I suppose. But I'd say that with longer posts, there is more to be said. What you can say in several short posts, you can say a longer one. Of course, that's assuming that the long posts in question are not the ones in which 5 paragraphs are spent saying nothing. I think the key either way (short, long, whateverthefuck) is to get say what one feels needs to be said. Any post can be longer than it needs to be, even if it's ended at 3,000 words, it could be longer. And perhaps at that 3,000 word state it was appropriate in that it stated what needed stating, that the character(s) developed and interacted. I guess what I'm saying is that it shouldn't be so much about long posts versus short posts, but good writing versus rambling (which is arguably what I've done here ).

Well IMO if you can break 1 post up into 5 smaller posts then you should do it. Not only does it free up time to post in more than one thread at once but it also allows for greater character interaction. Instead of asking another character 6 questions broken up with action each time, it would be better if you asked 1 question and let them reply, before going off on another tangent. It would just read and play better.

Well of course, if you need to take a few thousands words to get across what needs to be said that is great, especially when a lot is happening. It doesn't bother me when a post is long, it just bothers me when a post is long for the sake of being long.
I've always tried to cut out the unnecessary length in my posts, only indulging in rambling when I am in a closed thread (or, on past sites, trying to beef up my word count to get better rewards. Don't lie, most of us did it when monies were on the line). And in a battle or a situation with a lot of real depth to it is going on, yeah, I expect to see long posts. But what has really suffered are basic conversations, in my opinion.
What I am saying is in most cases long posts are a good thing, they add depth and detail to the RP, but most of us don't want to post short posts when there really is nothing to say, so we write filler. And that filler is what I don't like.
Edit: Also, like Mick said, when we ask a bunch of questions in conversation, especially when there are more than two people in a thread, you spend most of your time answering those questions basically in the past tense. It is awkward, really. What I am saying is we shouldn't be afraid of a conversation that follows a basic line of Statement -> Response. Rather than Statement1 + Statement2 + Statement3 -> Response1 + Response2 + Response3.
