ABOUT THE CHARACTER
Name: Liu Bei Age: 54 Gender: Male Style: Canon Residence: Ba Shu
THE PERSONALITY
Liu Bei believes that the Han should be upheld and returned to power; this is partially due to the fact that he is of Han lineage--and would place himself, or one of his sons, in the Emperor's throne in a heartbeat. Liu Bei knows that he is very popular, but what the public doesn't see is his ambitious side.
What makes Liu Bei popular among people is his compassion for the commoners. During his exodus Liu Bei took it upon himself to rescue thousands from Cao Cao's forces. Liu Bei's service to the people that serve him is what makes him strong, it is also what makes him complete. He believes that he is a leader only to serve his people--serving himself comes second.
Service to himself is a smaller part in comparison to his motivation to restore the Han and to bring peace to his people. It is still, however, a large part of him. Liu Bei also had a temper, and sometimes, especially when he doesn't get his way, it shows. Coupled with his desire to serve himself, Liu Bei can show a very uncharacteristic side to him at some moments. It is then that he can only hope to shield that part of himself to the public.
THE APPEARANCE
Liu Bei, despite his demeanor (which we shall get to in a moment), is a man of grand stature. He is tall, had long arms, and some urban legends state that his earlobes droop down to his shoulders. This is of course, a hyperbole, but a good statement for Liu Bei nontheless. Liu Bei's facial hair still remain a robust black, and his facial features are sharp and handsome. His appearance adds to his humbleness and charisma. His demeanor is very agreeable. Concise in speech, very calm and reassuring, Liu Bei's very presence is a comfort to most. For all of this, he is liked by those he has met in person.
THE HISTORY
Liu Bei, a confucian in appearance and a legalist in substance. Liu Bei is the brilliant politician that--despite his initial losses and lack of material anything, carved out a sizable realm for himself in Jing and Ba Shu even though he had a later start than his rivals Sun Ce and Cao Cao. Liu Bei's history is a long one, and it starts at the beginning of the fall of the Han Empire.
Liu Bei was one of the first to volunteer for service under his childhood friend, Gongsun Zan. He gathered 1,000 volunteers and made an oath of brotherhood with two fellow volunteers whom he had a great friendship with--Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Since then, the brothers have been inseperable, facing the chaos and turmoil of the world together. Even sharing a bed and sleeping outside when the world threw them out into the streets for them to rot. After the Yellow Turban Rebellion, Liu Bei literally took turns serving just about everyone in the Central Plains.
Finally, when Guan Yu escaped Cao Cao's custody (having paid back his service when he killed both Wen Chou and Yan Liang), Liu Bei was then targeted by Cao Cao, whom considered Liu Bei a threat--despite having little no conquerable land. Liu Bei's exodus into Jing province, and safeguard under Liu Biao then began. There was a tentative Liu-Sun alliance. Sun Ce hated Liu Biao for the death of his father, but if the two sides could work together to defeat Cao Cao, such an alliance was indeed worth it.
Luckily, Liu Bei didn't have to wait for tensions to boil between Liu Biao. Liu Biao died due to illness and instead of his incompetent successor taking over, Liu Bei coyly nominated himself to inherit Liu Biao's lands. Despite some initial protest, the threat of Cao Cao was too much. Xu Shu recommended that Liu Bei seek out two skilled individuals, Pang Tong and Zhuge Liang. After the recruitment of these two, combined with the genius of Zhou Yu and Lu Su, and the bravery of Huang Gai, among others. Cao Cao suffered a huge defeat with an excess of 800,000 casualties on side, coupled with a breakout of typhoid. The southern campaign for Cao Cao went on hiatus.
Liu Bei, backed by his strategists, saw that the incapable Liu Zhang was wasting away in the regions of Ba and Shu. Liu Bei asked Liu Zhang to give up his province, and let Liu Bei take it over for the war effort against Cao Cao. Liu Zhang refused. Liu Bei tried to disarm the situation but a duel between Zhang Ren and Liu Feng during a dinner service derailed diplomatic solutions. Fa Zheng appeared to Liu Bei with a plan and an offer. He gave Liu Bei access to key cities such as Zi Tong and Yong An. Almost overnight, Yizhou fell into the hands of Liu Bei. Most of Liu Zhang's former officers defected. Fa Zheng even convinced Ma Chao, after witnessing the suspicious acts of Han Sui, to support Liu Bei and hand over Han Zhong to him.
With seemingly nothing, Liu Bei has carved out a realm for himself. He inherited Liu Biao's domain on pure luck, and now he is poised to strike down another of his own kinsman for his personal gain. The mental toll continues to gather on Liu Bei. Defeating Liu Zhang is his only hope in order to fulfil the Louzhong Plan. The future of the Han, the future of his dynasty, it seems as if the future of China now lays in the hands of the decisions of Liu Bei. The charismatic leader of the southwest.
