After chatting with some other community people like Justin, Kyle, Sam, and Aaron I've realized that Rot3k has lost a lot of steam in the past decade for our community.
Working in conjuction with Adam and other recent community leaders I'd like to actually work on site that people would be interested in writing on. I find that talking with a lot of my friends here they'll just say "We've done rot3k a lot, I've lost my passion for it." Or something along those lines.
Anyway, with this site, I'm not sure what I can do with it. If a handful of people want me to revive it, I will, and I'll take feedback in what they want from the site. If they want it as more of a game, or more in the sense of what New Era was.

Hmmm, I was actually working on another Rotk RP based on the Chinese comic, The Ravages of Time. I don't know if any of you guys has read the comic, but its an adaptation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Their plot seems much more interesting and fleshes out new original characters. It would be something similar to how Adam wanted where the site doesn't solely focuses on just battles of the three kingdoms.
Here's the link to the Wikipedia on The Ravages of Time.
And here's the link to the actual wikispaces of The Ravages of Time.
Also, this is the my anime list page with more detailed and in-depth information about the characters.
Check it out and get familiar with some of the characters such as Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sima Yi ect. and the fictional character, Yuan Fang.
I would like to put a good deal of focus on the politics and warfare. Some sort of mind game with military strategies and tactics. And most of all, Drama! We need much more assassins, evilness, back stabbing ect. Not just random killing and attacking.
Plus there's a site where you can read the entire actual comic of RoT which can help immensely with role players on what to expect and what to RP on. I think many members didn't know what to write about and images and inspiration really help with that.
The comic really inspired me and I have always loved the Rotk series. Since this type of RP based on the actual comic will have a very alternation to the actual Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, the plot will exercise a giant degree of creativity where details of the novel itself will change and be largely dramatize to keep things entertaining.
So, what do you guys think? I would like to give it a try. I made a board for it a while ago but it has much to be done. Images for the site are one of my main concerns and I am never good at it. You guys are welcome to use my idea for this site. I'll continue working on my board's plot just in case.

Naturally my vote would go toward one of the fantasy genres, as it does every time. I have some ideas to bounce around next time we talk, but I don't have a specific vote for this poll right now.. Well, that's not true, I'll cast my vote the way of the Darkness Falls/Suns of Fate line, something with factions/kingdoms (so 3k of us, but it's what works). Either way, I've been doing some writing for my Bronze Age inspired site, but can't expect to have that in order for quite a while yet.. But I'll catch you on MSN sometime soon, regardless. And Minzy, I've been burnt out on 3k for a long time now, but I'd always join if you put a site up with those ideas.

How about we take rotk and mash it together with something like game of thrones? If we rewrite the history of rotk, lets say Wei and Cao Cao claimed victory over the land with Liu Bei and Sun Quan surrendering with Lords such as Liu Bei, Sun Quan, Ma Teng, Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu made wardens. Liu Bei would be warden of the Riverlands, Quan the southlands, Yuan Shu in the east, Ma Teng in the north west and Yuan Shao in the north with Cao Cao being the main man controlling the centre. Peace has been achieved but there is now a new threat from the outside. To the north a new invading country (Can be a new made up empire or maybe even the Romans if you want a fantasy what if aspect), in the east a new country has been discovered, masters of the sea that will give the southlands and the warden of the east problems. The Nanman tribes men also have rebelled against Wei rule. As these new threats happen, Cao Cao dies of illness and Cao Pi takes over who reigns for 6 months before dying of illness. His son Cao Rui, under the advice of Sima Yi, took to the field to fight the masters if the sea and was killed in battle. With no heir rightful heir, Sima Yi seized the throne for himself, with the rest of the realm being weak, they could do nothing but watch as the Sima's control the courts for 4 generations. However when the Sima Yan died his infant son was placed on the throne, but was quickly usurped by the great Grandson of Yuan Shao, who named his brother warden of the north. There is a 3 way alliance between the Yuans, they control the north, east and centre of china, however all 3 are in constant competition. The Ma family is allied with the Liu family and they oppose the new regime. The Suns in the southlands are undeclared but have motives of their own.
What do you think?

Ok here is what you do.....
Scrap ROTK, the buzz for it is long dead imo, it was fine when DW5 was still new and everyone played Koei games but that time is long past. It is far to niche to generate any long term traffic or interest.
The best site to do is a Fantasy site, I don't mean however a massive power surge Dragonball Manga Anime everyone is a god style Fantasy site I mean a realistic fantasy site.
You can incorporate aspects of ROTK in it but create a new and unique world. Limit the number of factions to 2 to begin with, if the site generates appeal then you can increase that number at a later date.
The factions should be:-
Imperials Rebels
so in effect its a civil war being raged in a make believe country that could have Chinese influences in the culture and society.
Battles should take place and a campaign map should be generated, however the battle rules need to be stream lined so everybody is aware of what they can and can't do.
No crazy tactics, if you can prove that something happened in history and you can pull it off that's fine, but no hollywood ROTK Kongming bull shit ploys. Think Medieval/Ancient warfare and the strategy and tactics they employed.
I developed a battle system which could work, it seems complicated but it really isn't once you get the hang of it. Its based off Wargames Research Group Rules and adapted to a text based game, it probably needs ironing out because its untested but in theory you should be able to have battles without the need for a Mod because the rules are clearly set out including how casualties are worked out.
Thats my two cents, I have a few ideas on how the site would work, if anyone is interested let me know.
oh and just for the record I did say right at the start of this that it would never work ;D
Free form RPG's actually require more work from admins/mods to keep them active so it was kind of short sighted to just assume that making it free form and expecting everyone to just post would work.
The only successful free form RP sites are ones where the admin and the mod team once a week go on every board and create a new, interesting thread which anyone can join in and which progresses the story.
This never did that.
I also love how Adam gave Mikey control of the site and the first thing he does ask what new site people want lol.
Also no matter what site is made next please please please ADVERTISE!!!!!

I think a big problem with SL was that it never actually opened. But good lessons learned in its beta phase! I also love how Adam gave Mikey control of the site and the first thing he does ask what new site people want lol. Well it was clear to me that Adam had given up this site so all I did was ask him for the admin password. xD I thought I could do something with this site, like I did with New Era when Steve and Adam left it, but it didn't feel right to mess with this one at the moment. SL and New Era have a much different feel. I forgot where we discussed your ideas about the battle formula Mick. I believe it was in a PM somewhere, and then on MSN but I've forgotten almost all of the details. Can you either post the details here or PM me again, or we can talk on MSN if you'd like?

I'm mad late, but I've lost interest in sites that focus on realism. Fantasy though is what I strive for in a site. My Zero Resolutions site crapped out so I'm making something new that I'll get to you guys when its completed. You might like it, you might not. Here's ZR mmxxxii.proboards.com/index.cgi

So i'm going solo on yet another site (I keep claiming sites to be my last, but alas I come out of the shadows of full time work to try my hand again) Old school, claim land, battle each other, customise the crap out of your armies etc. It'll be based in Roman BC times and will be last site (HAR HAR!) but its barely started to be put into any real development. All I aim for with this post is to see who still checks here, see who would be interested and use that to spur me on more . Anyway just to prevent people taking my ideas and making a site quicker than I can and claiming all my glory (happens all the time because I am so ahead of the curve with my wacky and new ideas! ) I will give a brief taster of my vision at best. - European map made for the site, with all *cough* Rome total war *cough* cities available to take over. - A few starter factions ready to take over of, but with the option of creating your own (With enough backing from other members... so get your buddies ready to mess people up oldschool Lyle/Brian/Shady/Mikey style. - A supply line idea I got from reading up about Caesar's war with Vercingetorix recently, basically the more you campaign, the harder it is to feed your men. - Use personal funds to both pay for your troops, but also to bank roll invasions, so no longer should people be rolling in money on the floor and bullying the newbies with 10k armies of explosive barrel catapults *sternly looks at Mikey from prior experience... 6 years ago... no way... ugh...* and here's one last point I aim for: to personally oversee each member of staff with specific jobs and get backup staff from the few weeks of open to blood new people into the staff role. I take a lot of blame for my recent sites demises, and so look to try and correct many, whilst giving you guys what you want with this entirely different (but oh so familiar) set up for a future site! I'll finish by saying goodbye and give you the most likely of time frames knowing how my inspiration whilst building sites gains and fades... See you all in 8 months time!

Thanks Adam. I just need a few more touch ups and it will be open for role play. If any one would care to lend a helping hand, it will be greatly appreciated. Not too much needs to be done but I can open it up faster with some help.

Sounds awesome Adam, I'm about to start a degree in Ancient History so I will definitely be interested! Be sure to use Ptolemaic Egypt and not the Egypt Creative assembly used in Rome haha!
